It was a warm summer morning when we packed our overnight bags and headed up to one of our favorite, creative towns Ojai, CA. Situated in Ventura County, northwest of LA and set in the Topatopa Mountains, the village-like town is dotted with art galleries, eclectic shops brimming with carefully curated goods and some of the best people in So Cal. That evening, our friends Mark Sperling, co-founder of the leading youth culture industry collective, Group Y and Lan Thai, chef/owner of catering and food delivery business, Enclave, hosted farm-to-table speaker dinner appropriately titled ‘Two Farm Tables and a Microphone’. A shared belief between the two co-founders Sperling and Thai, as well as, our own Towne Mayor Brett Lawrence, is that a “singularly unique, shared moment in human life is the ideal catalyst for the exchange of ideas.” Combining visionary ideas and unforgettable cuisine, Two Farm Tables and a Microphone invites guests to feed all five senses, while creating food for thought.
This event took place at the Caravan Outpost – a beautifully curated, eleven Airstream trailer garden in the middle of quaint Ojai. As the sun gradually set, the evening kicked off with our Towne Park family gathered around the communal fire pit. With a couple blondes in hand, we reminisced about the good old days and caught up with some of our friends who run a great OC local spot SeaLegs at the Beach. By sunset, the guests enjoyed refreshing cocktails courtesy of Malfy Gin Buck, accompanied by Lan Thai’s Asian/California fusion specialty appetizer, farm-fresh lemongrass organic Mary’s chicken skewers with turmeric ginger sticky rice, kohlrabi slaw, mixed herbs and chili lime vinaigrette. We slowly made our way to the long farm tables, to enjoy our main meal of shaking beef tenderloin, shiso chimichurri, roasted tomato relish and fresh harvest, kabocha pumpkin panang curry.
The evening wrapped with incredible speakers, Jonathan and Denise Nafarrete, Co-founders of VRScout. The husband and wife trailblazing duo have been respected thought leaders and sought-after experts in the social media and marketing industry and they offered thought-provoking insights and sparked conversation as we enjoyed the last of our evening with a refreshing Towne Park beer in hand.
Thanks for the good times Ojai, we will be back to pain the town sooner than later.
